Sicily feels like a slice of Old Italy, beautifully frozen in time, with a character all its own. Though one of Italy’s 20 regions, it stands apart, its culture, cuisine, and rhythm distinctly Sicilian. Thanks to its rich, diverse farmland, the island offers a culinary experience that’s as layered as its history.
Dominating the landscape is the ever-watchful Mt. Etna, often visible from the rural hilltops and villages. Its volcanic soil and lofty altitude shape the region’s wines, lending them a bold, mineral edge that’s impossible to forget. I’ve visited Sicily twice, and each time I’m struck by how you can shift from the charm of a sun-drenched seaside village to the stillness of the mountains and rolling countryside in a single afternoon.
TRAVEL NOTES
TRAVEL NOTES
What inspires me most, though, is the island’s strong agri-tourism roots - places where life revolves around what you grow, cook, and share. It’s a philosophy I try to bring into every project (especially with The Farm Byron Bay): the idea that luxury can be as simple as stepping into your garden, picking fresh herbs or vegetables, and letting that moment shape the meal. That’s the kind of lifestyle I’ll always chase - one grounded in nature, tradition, and taste.
